Everyone faced
with an impossible life situation,
will constantly hear the same advice:
that success is all about attitude & motivation.

Just like true-believers
in snake oil & so-called 'alternative medicines'
can never be budged from their script:
'If you can believe it, you can achieve it!'
No matter what the actual reality of a situation is.

But when cracks appear
in that unbreakable façade
and they realise that ignoring
& denying the truth will only get them so far;

there's always the passive-aggressive
retreat position of:
'I think you forget how lucky you really are!'

But such an argument
is both weak & lazy
because no matter who you are
or what you do,

if you look around your community
or the world as a whole,
there's always someone else,
who's worse off than you.

& being made to feel guilty for all of your blessings,
isn't much of a motivation to try & succeed-
if anything, all it really does
is to make you feel worse;

and that your
so-called 'blessings' were somehow stolen
from those more deserving, or who have greater need,
& that your very existence is somehow their curse.

Yet the people, who worship
at the Altar of Mammon,
neglect to give you any of the facts
that you actually can use;

that wealth is not about money
or material possessions
but actually about the values you cherish
& the valuations you choose.

Such as: When the only way
you'd ever have a full money-clip,
would be to take a soda can tab,
and bend it around a penny,

& when even the resources for your basic needs
are always in short supply,
but with regards to worries,
you always have far too many.

Yet as long as you're alive
& still have your health,
you'll always have another
beautiful sunrise to see.

Likewise with every blazing-fire sunset,
& silvery-moon starry night,
all of Nature's spectacles
are given to you for free.

And even those stuck in the city
are still not completely lost
there's always gardens & parks & other hidden gems,
for which the time and effort to find them
are your only cost;

and in both town & country
birds will still sing just the same,
& there's always a tree to be found
that will give you shade,
or momentary shelter from a sudden rain.

Or a flower display next to a cooling fountain,
at least until some moron fills it with soap-
that's the only downside: human baboons, who think
that marking their territory by befouling it
is always an unutterably funny joke.

but like so may other cases
where something good has been lost,
or the fun has disappeared,
or all the pleasure has grown cold-

most of the time,
all you really need to do,
is to simply move yourself
a little further down the road.
This piece is in response to a number of folks, who have told me time, and time again, that I need to start writing more 'positive' pieces.

However, to give proper credit and appreciation to the folks whose input and opinions I much value: at least their messages are tempered by reality. Unfortunately, I can't say the same for most of the folks out there, who simply parrot the same script over and over again. Hence, 99% of the snark within this piece is directed towards those same types of folks, who make TV Evangelists and motivational speakers rich.

Still, I do understand. As the old saw goes: Laugh and the world laughs with you. Cry, and you cry alone.

Nevertheless, I can't escape the fact that I tend to express even my messages of hope from a slightly different angle, simply because I have never been able to bring myself to worship at the Church of Anthony Robbins and Zig Ziglar.

The 'positive simply for the sake of being positive' has just never worked for me, as I just can't bring myself to put on those blinders. Hence, I generally have to take a much rockier path.
