I see you called me into a meeting,
and the boardroom is full-
I already don't like where this is going.

You want me to explain my position
and justify my ideas?
Well, I think my work speaks for itself,
and your ignorance is what is showing.

I refuse to let you shame me!
At least three quarters of you
need to check your privilege:
the threat-climate in here is far too high,
and I feel like I'm being gas-lighted!

I know when I'm right,
'cause it's deep in my heart,
so don't try and force me to
accept something I can't feel:
I know I'm being lied to!

And besides,
I know the agendas of the oppressor when I feel them,
all these constant microaggressions
and showing me hate-

this is intimidation, and nothing more!
Oppressors will do what oppressors do best,
and what they do best
is to discriminate.

You say I won't let you
get a word in edgewise?
Like you actually have anything
constructive to say?

It's just more of the same gas-lighting
and increasing the threat-climate,
and I refuse to accept
any of your blame!

Now you say that my services
are no longer required,
and you'll have me
escorted off the premises?

Lay so much as a finger on me,
and you can tell it to my lawyer:
he'll teach you the
true meaning of nemesis.

Or, you can stand right down,
and back the Hell off;
give me a raise and a promotion,
and a sincere apology will be the requirement,

or you can go right ahead,
and have security assault me,
and you bastards will be
generously funding my early retirement.
This is yet another screed, which broad-stroke exaggerates to make a point. Most specifically, I'm referring to the continuing growth of the number of folks, who walk through life with a very healthy sense of entitlement, as well as a growing number of reasons to justify that entitlement to themselves, and to others.

A secondary inspiration is something I was recently told about, where yet another old-fashioned word and/or phrase has become nouveau-trendy, and in the process has been completely re-defined into something that bears very little resemblance to its traditional meaning.

Just as how, several years ago, the phrase: "Showing me hate" somehow became re-defined as having someone disagree with your opinion or beliefs, there is now a new phrase to add to that list, specifically: Gas-Lighting.

In its traditional definition, Gas-Lighting came from Patrick Hamilton's 1938 stage production Gas-Light, which has been adapted to the screen several times, the best-known instance being the 1944 adaptation starring Charles Boyer, Ingrid Bergman, and a very young Angela Lansbury.

Specifically, "Gas-Lighting" referred to the act of gradually and maliciously altering someone's surroundings and perception so that they eventually doubt their own sanity: essentially a passive form of brain-washing.

Well, apparently the new-fangled definition of "Gas-Lighting" has become synonymous with the new-fangled definition of "showing me hate". Hence, if you disagree with someone's stated opinions or beliefs, and attempt to launch a logical argument against them, you will be accused of 'Gas-Lighting'.
I guess I've been re-edumacated yet again. :P

I love how you explain life so well.
